Three Day Workshop:
Exploring Color: Using Color Schemes in the Landscape, sponsored
by M. Graham & Company Fri, Sat., and Sun. August 14-16,
10-4 each day.
Class is limited to 10 participants. Cost is $250, and includes
a three color sample selection of M. Graham Oils or Acrylics
plus an Art Advantage gallery-wrapped canvas.
This in-depth three day exploration with art guru Amy Funderburk
is for artists who want to get a handle on the use of color in
their work with a focus on the landscape. Artists are welcome
to use any color media in which they feel well versed.
A lecture and slide show begin the workshop that will explore
the color wheel, color schemes, color use throughout art history,
and the emotional, psychological, physiological, and symbolic
reactions to color choices. Hands-on projects will first consist
of color mixing exercises. By isolating color as an artistic
element, its effects will then be explored by repeating the same
simple composition in three different color schemes. The keys
learned from this exercise about the effects of editorial color
combinations will then be applied to a more formal plein-air
landscape composition, weather permitting. Handling all that
green, keeping landscapes original and fresh with vibrant color,
and working from photographs versus plein-air will be discussed.
Techniques for color mixing and application will also be demonstrated
by the instructor.

The Business of Art: with art guru Amy Funderburk
Sat. June 27th. 9am-5pm. Class size limited to 18, cost is
$100 and includes "brunch".

a tax number, and the Creative Property Exclusion to the Uniform
Capitalization Rule sound like a foreign language? Unsure about
how to price your work or find the right gallery? Art is a business,
and the more artists themselves treat it as such, the more the
general public can also be educated about the value of artwork.
Topics covered will include:
Getting started as a business * Taxes for artists: federal business
deductions, state tax numbers, and inventories * Contracts with
clients and galleries * How best to approach a curator: what
a curator looks for, the submission packet, preparing a cdrom
or slides, and questions to ask a potential new gallery * Pricing
and Presentation: how to price your work and professionally present
it through choices of matting and framing * Diversifying your
income and innovative marketing: several ways to make a living
as an artist
After a lecture component, time permitting, participants are
welcome to bring submission packets or portfolios for an informal
critique. Participants will receive a lot of handouts with this
seminar.
